Acupuncture is an alternative medicine method.

It is an ancient therapeutic methodology that is still used today having undergone many modifications and improvements throughout centuries. Its roots of origin are found in ancient China. It is based on the philosophy that a major role in the function of the human body is played by some energy pathways related to the pathways of basic nerves or groups of neurons, which in acupuncture are called “meridians”. There are some points along the meridians that, if mechanically stimulated, improve the distorted energy flow in a therapeutic way. In acupuncture, these points are stimulated by inserting needles into the skin to different depths accordingly.

In 2010, UNESCO included Acupuncture in
the “List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity” after China had submitted the relevant claim.
